These stories look at what it means to build a life in a new place.
Not as a single moment of arrival, but as something that unfolds over time, through work, family, culture, and everyday decisions about how to move forward while staying connected to where you come from.
Each story is different. But they share a common thread: the act of creating something new while carrying something with you.
ABOUT THE WORK
Many of these stories began during the pandemic, through extended conversations with people reflecting on the decision to leave one place and build a life in another.
Over time, this grew into a larger body of oral histories — more than 80 interviews documenting migration, family, work, and the process of finding a sense of belonging.
Some of these stories have been shaped into films and written pieces. Others remain part of an ongoing archive.
A broader collection of stories drawn from ongoing conversations with people who have made their lives in Mississauga.
Together, they reflect a range of experiences — different paths, different histories, and different ways of creating a sense of belonging.

I’m particularly drawn to stories that explore identity, movement, and belonging — and to shaping narratives that reflect how people make a place their own over time.
